About
The Gunny Bike Bus program was created in 2025 to encourage biking as a healthy, social, and environmentally friendly way for children to get to school. The program brings groups of students together to ride their bikes to school once a week. By building a sense of community and ensuring a safe group environment, the Bike Bus makes cycling fun and sociable. This initiative promotes lifelong biking habits, cuts down on traffic and carbon emissions, and provides a safe transportation alternative!

The Gunny Bike Bus is sponsored by the Gunnison PTA and funded through grants from the Gunnison County Metropolitan Recreation District (MetRec) and The Community Foundation of the Gunnison Valley

The History of Bike Buses
Cycling is the happiest mode of transportation- some even call bikes 'happiness machines'! It's no wonder that group cycling has been around for centuries throughout the world. Bike buses, as a means for school children to get to school, began in Belgium decades ago. Bike buses in the U.S. had a slower start, but post-Covid, over 200 bike buses have been created after Portland's bike buses went viral; sparking renewed interest in safe, community-based biking.
